# GetCapabilities for WMS Server

I've&nbsp;created&nbsp;a&nbsp;WMS&nbsp;Service&nbsp;that&nbsp;is&nbsp;patterned&nbsp;off&nbsp;the&nbsp;WMS&nbsp;sample&nbsp;code.&nbsp;This&nbsp;WMS&nbsp;service&nbsp;works&nbsp;well&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;web&nbsp;edition&nbsp;3.0&nbsp;WMS&nbsp;raster&nbsp;layer.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;when&nbsp;I&nbsp;try&nbsp;to&nbsp;use&nbsp;the&nbsp;desktop&nbsp;edition&nbsp;3.0&nbsp;WMS&nbsp;raster&nbsp;layer,&nbsp;it&nbsp;complains&nbsp;that&nbsp;I&nbsp;have&nbsp;not&nbsp;defined&nbsp;GetCapabilities.

Questions:

1.&nbsp;What's&nbsp;the&nbsp;minimum&nbsp;definition&nbsp;I&nbsp;need&nbsp;for&nbsp;the&nbsp;GetCapabilities?

2.&nbsp;I'm&nbsp;returning&nbsp;a&nbsp;raster&nbsp;(satellite)&nbsp;layer&nbsp;with&nbsp;one&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;three&nbsp;themes&nbsp;-&nbsp;roads,&nbsp;satellite&nbsp;and&nbsp;hybrid.&nbsp;Do&nbsp;I&nbsp;define&nbsp;these&nbsp;as&nbsp;layers&nbsp;or&nbsp;themes?

_For&nbsp;the&nbsp;first&nbsp;question:_  
If&nbsp;you&nbsp;work&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;desktop&nbsp;edition&nbsp;3.0,&nbsp;first&nbsp;you&nbsp;will&nbsp;send&nbsp;GetCapabilities&nbsp;request&nbsp;to&nbsp;server,&nbsp;and&nbsp;then&nbsp;get&nbsp;metadata&nbsp;about&nbsp;the&nbsp;WMS&nbsp;Server&nbsp;from&nbsp;the&nbsp;returned&nbsp;XML&nbsp;document,&nbsp;here&nbsp;is&nbsp;an&nbsp;example&nbsp;for&nbsp;the&nbsp;GetCapabilities&nbsp;xml&nbsp;document.&nbsp;You&nbsp;can&nbsp;get&nbsp;it&nbsp;from&nbsp;this&nbsp;link,&nbsp;[worldmapkit1.thinkgeo.com/CachedWmsServer/WmsServer.axd?Request=GetCapabilities&Service=Wms](http://worldmapkit1.thinkgeo.com/CachedWmsServer/WmsServer.axd?Request=GetCapabilities&Service=Wms)

_For&nbsp;the&nbsp;second&nbsp;question:&nbsp;_  
Yes,&nbsp;you&nbsp;can&nbsp;define&nbsp;the&nbsp;layers&nbsp;and&nbsp;styles&nbsp;what&nbsp;you&nbsp;want.&nbsp;You&nbsp;could&nbsp;get&nbsp;information&nbsp;about&nbsp;that&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;sample&nbsp;project&nbsp;in&nbsp;attachment&nbsp;which&nbsp;you&nbsp;must&nbsp;add&nbsp;your&nbsp;test&nbsp;data&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;App\_Data&nbsp;folder.
