# TileMatrix question

Once&nbsp;i&nbsp;set&nbsp;the&nbsp;scale&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;tilematrix&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nbsp;tile&nbsp;cache&nbsp;does&nbsp;(columncount&nbsp;\*&nbsp;rowcount)&nbsp;=&nbsp;the&nbsp;number&nbsp;of&nbsp;tiles&nbsp;that&nbsp;would&nbsp;be&nbsp;required&nbsp;to&nbsp;tile&nbsp;the&nbsp;entire&nbsp;planet&nbsp;at&nbsp;that&nbsp;scale?&nbsp;If&nbsp;this&nbsp;is&nbsp;true&nbsp;is&nbsp;their&nbsp;a&nbsp;handy&nbsp;dandy&nbsp;way&nbsp;of&nbsp;getting&nbsp;these&nbsp;numbers&nbsp;for&nbsp;a&nbsp;given&nbsp;extent&nbsp;-&nbsp;the&nbsp;number&nbsp;of&nbsp;tiles&nbsp;that&nbsp;would&nbsp;be&nbsp;requesred&nbsp;to&nbsp;cache&nbsp;that&nbsp;extent&nbsp;for&nbsp;a&nbsp;given&nbsp;zoom&nbsp;level.&nbsp;Sorry&nbsp;if&nbsp;this&nbsp;is&nbsp;obvious&nbsp;i&nbsp;just&nbsp;want&nbsp;to&nbsp;make&nbsp;sure&nbsp;the&nbsp;numbers&nbsp;i&nbsp;end&nbsp;up&nbsp;with&nbsp;are&nbsp;accurate.

Hi&nbsp;Chris,  
It&nbsp;is&nbsp;as&nbsp;you&nbsp;guessed,&nbsp;the&nbsp;number&nbsp;of&nbsp;tiles&nbsp;is&nbsp;calculated&nbsp;to&nbsp;tile&nbsp;the&nbsp;entire&nbsp;extent&nbsp;set&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;TileMatrix.&nbsp;But&nbsp;for&nbsp;now,&nbsp;we&nbsp;don’t&nbsp;have&nbsp;such&nbsp;an&nbsp;API&nbsp;exposed&nbsp;to&nbsp;users,&nbsp;all&nbsp;the&nbsp;calculation&nbsp;is&nbsp;done&nbsp;internally,&nbsp;if&nbsp;you&nbsp;intend&nbsp;to&nbsp;set&nbsp;your&nbsp;own&nbsp;scale&nbsp;for&nbsp;TileMatrix&nbsp;in&nbsp;each&nbsp;zoom&nbsp;level,&nbsp;you&nbsp;have&nbsp;to&nbsp;provide&nbsp;the&nbsp;arguments&nbsp;fit&nbsp;for&nbsp;you&nbsp;specific&nbsp;cases&nbsp;in&nbsp;order&nbsp;to&nbsp;initialize&nbsp;the&nbsp;TileMatrix&nbsp;applied&nbsp;to&nbsp;your&nbsp;customized&nbsp;zoom&nbsp;level.&nbsp;Perhaps&nbsp;you&nbsp;could&nbsp;set&nbsp;up&nbsp;a&nbsp;specific&nbsp;scenario&nbsp;for&nbsp;us&nbsp;with&nbsp;some&nbsp;data&nbsp;so&nbsp;that&nbsp;we&nbsp;can&nbsp;help&nbsp;you&nbsp;with&nbsp;your&nbsp;case.
