Converting InMemoryFeatureLayer to KMZ

I have a requirement to convert an InMemoryFeatureLayer to KMZ.

Thinking of first converting the InMemoryFeatureLayer to a Shapefile and then converting the Shapefile to KMZ.

Thoughts?
