Fail to re-install the web edition

Hi,


I have installed a few versions of web edition in my computer so (evaluation/  full editions).. i was thinking to remove them all and install the latest one (v4.5 full edition) only.. 


i give it the same product key i used before and it gave me error saying like'' exceed allowable install .." and popped up another error box as the below


 



 


then... my ms office (word, outlook, excel, ....) doesn't work any more.....    reinstalling ms office wouldn't make it work again.. i had to reinstall the windows... first...  =(  and that happened again.. after i reinstall windows.. (like everything new) i installed the web eidition..  same problem occured..   everything should be wiped out already.. when i reinstalled windows..    i can only install it with the product key once? 


but how come it seems to corrupt my MS office when i install it a second time with the same product key?   how can I avoid this in the future... if i need/want to reinstall the web edition..

Hi Lishan,
Sorry for the inconvenience. The first exception “exceed the allowable install…” is thrown because you guys has exceeded the maximum install count of the license key purchased, please contact the support@thinkgeo.com for its support.
To recreate the second exception what you encountered, we followed the steps that you provided strictly on Windows Server 2003 and Windows 7 with the license key which has exceed the allowable install, we also tried downloading the install package from our website to simulate your trip, because we worried that maybe there is something wrong with online installer, but all works fine except the first exception thrown by us. “The error code is 2908” is always thrown by VS windows installer when there is something wrong with the package, such as broken installer. Maybe the windows installer opens something shared with office, but doesn’t close them when it runs into” error code 2908”. We are still trying to recreate it, can you provide the installed server information, such as OS version, X32/X64 etc.?
 Can you try downloading the installer from website again, maybe the package has been broken during the downloading, and contact support@thinkgeo.com for the install count extending? After that, please try again.

It's Windows XP professional version 2002 Service pack 3. It's 32 bit.

Thanks and the same to you.
We did a quick search about the “Windows installer internal error 2908”, it seems like it comes from Visual Studio installer and always happened on Windows 2000 or XP SP3,  and is caused by something that we haven’t noticed before.  Now it’s hard for us to resolve it in a short time, I have submitted to our issue list and develop team. Have you contact to our support@thinkgeo.com about exception “exceed the allowable install…”? I’m not sure if it helped.

The customer have to install the windows installer 4.5 first so that our installation package can work fine on the windows xp sp3. Here is the link for windows installer 4.5 below:

Second, please setup the environment according to the following link:

Then this problem can be resolved correctly, I have tried it on a clean XP sp3 machine.
