I see that the Mapsuite does not include the geocoding capability. So, for any geocoding need, I have to use the Geocoder SDK. Is my assumption correct?
I need to know if I need to buy the Geoceder along with the Desktop Map suite for geocoding and if the intergration between these two components is seamless or not.
I would really appreciate any information you can provide me!

The Desktop Edition does not include the geo-coding ability. The Geocoder SDK comes with a huge amount of data to geo-coder addresses in the US. This is one of the reasons we kept it separate. You can use the Desktop Edition’s APIs to build your own geocoder however we suggest you use our Geoc-Coder. Are you going to use this in the US?
Can you explain a little about what you mean by seamless? It is very simple to do a geocoder and then display that data on the map. If you give me some sceneries I would be happy to give you an in depth explanation on how you would do it and how much work it would take.

We are going to use this software in the US.
By seamless, I actually wanted to know how difficult it would be to use them together in an application.
What I need to do is the following -
1. address mapping from lat-lon
2. lat-lon mapping from street address.
If I can use the Desktop edition’s API’s to do geo-coding and reverse geocoding for US, then that would be great. Please let me know if I might face some restrictions with these API’s.
On a separate note, the map data that you use, how large is the file? Are they in shape files or some other proprietary data format?

I think the Geocoder SDK is the perfect product for you to achieve the Geocoding and reverse Geocoding functionalities as you mentioned. I agree with as David already addressed in previous post, the Desktop Edition APIs cannot achieve this, its main functionality is to show map and do spatial analysis against the data.

The Geocoder 4.0 data is shipped via DVD in a compressed format and is 1.32 GB compressed. Once extracted this data consumes 5.63 GB.
The data is contained in our propriatary index format.
