Please try to use serialize to save it to disk and de-serialize from disk file, following code snippet should give you some hints, take a try if you are interested.
MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream();
BinaryFormatter formatter = new BinaryFormatter();
formatter.Serialize(stream, overlay);
stream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
WorldMapKitWmsDesktopOverlay w1 = (WorldMapKitWmsDesktopOverlay)formatter.Deserialize(stream);
