Hi,
The current Web Edition has embedded Open Layers code into it, submitting this to the client in relevant chunks as needed. When it comes to building web sites for mobile devices, this is a limiting factor, as OpenLayers is not very mobile oriented (yet).
ThinkGeo offers Phone Edition for Windows Phone, but what about the other (dominant) platforms ? How about a more capable Web Edition to support building more mobile platform agnostic-yet-capable solutions ?
I’ve recently been introduced to Leaflet JS (leafletjs.com/), and it looks quite promising.
Is it possible to interface the current Web Edition with Leaflet JS in a manner similar to Open Layers ?
Would it - sometime in the future - be feasable to replace Open Layers with Leaflet JS, or is the Web Edition model too tightly bound to Open Layers ?
Cheers.
Leaflet JS?
Hi Lars,
You are right that the open layers library is much heavy to build web site for mobile devices. I guess we will take your care thing into consideration to develop a newly Web edition for mobile with a more light weight JS library once we have enough resources.
As for the Leaflet.JS, which looks cool and we will continue to do more investigations on it. Actually, in a short time, I don’t think the Leaflet can be take into our consideration, because it’s just targeted on the mobile. Maybe we can refer the lightweight OpenLayers js mobile.js to a optimized application. And then added more mobile features by ourselves.
We appreciate that you gave us the far-sighted suggestion for Web Edition.
Best Regards,
Johnny
