New Product Proposal

Hello,


I'm examining Map Suite World Map Kit for possible use in our system.


I'm especially interested in rendering classes, I guess they are called collectively as the Rendering Plugin. Creating something similar from scratch would take a lot of time, which I don't have at this time.


So, I'm interested in buying the rendering plugin. But I don't have any use for USA and Canada street level maps, and neither other customers of yours who are not located in North America. I may use the World data, though. 


Right now, if I like to have the plugin, I have to pay for things that I wouldn't use.


My proposal is to split Map Suite World Map Kit into different products to create some additional choices for us , such as :


1) Rendering Plugin

2) World Data

3) USA and Canada Street Level Data


or


1) Rendering Plugin + World Data + USA and Canada Street Level Data (Current product)

2) Rendering Plugin + World Data


or


1) Rendering Plugin

2) Map Data Pack (World Data + USA and Canada Street Level Data)


Of course, I'm assuming that splitting the product would mean a significant price advantage for those who don't need the other parts. As a result, customers could buy whatever they need.


Does this proposal make sense to you ?

   Thanks for your suggestions.  This has an interesting history and I will attempt to explain it as best as I can.  With the 2.x product line we had the US, World and Canada as separate products.  To buy each of them was much more expensive than what the World Map kit costs.  We had so many users that all of the areas and suggested we combine them.  It was also much more of a hassle for us to support more products and we had many people who didn’t understand the pricing.   
  
   The challenge with a data plug in model is that to get the maps looking nice you need to sculpt it at every zoom level and need to reliably know what data you will be using.  If you had a world dataset  and then you plugged in the USA high detail the master set needs to know not to draw after a certain zoom level.  If the plug-in not there then it needs to.  It is a really tricky business and can quickly get complicated. 
  
   As I understand it there is a cost to having more products in the sense they are all separate marketing, product pages, pricing.  There is the cost to explaining to the user how they fit together, if they fit together.  Having to update products on different release schedules etc.  I think in the end they decided to roll them all into one product to make it easier to understand, sell, maintain, etc.  The datasets, I think, are royalty free so it isn’t costing us any more money to pass more data along to you.  The costs to us are mainly in sales, marketing, development, maintenance and support. 
  
   If one of the issues for you is the dataset size then we can help you eliminate the bulk of the data that only shows when you zoom into street level for the US and Canada. 
  
   Having said all of that I am passing your comments to sales and product development.  I think it would be nice to at least have the data bundled in such a way as you can easily trim it down if you are not using street level data for a country.
