 Hi,


I need to start geocoding for China using the OpenStreet data.  Any advice on how to do this?


 


PS: How many Chinese Cities are currently defined within OpenStreet?

I would recommend reading the the Geo Coder for Canada Discussion Forum post located here in the Map Suite Geocoder section: gis.thinkgeo.com/Support/Dis...fault.aspx


This link offers the steps you need to follow when creating your Geocoding Index files that are the basis of 'geocoding'.


Checking out the12/15/2012 build of places.shp for China I found 34,701 towns, villages, and cities. Of course this does not mean there is complete street data for each but street data is avaialble for many locations.
