Upgrade from version 9 to?

We are finally looking to upgrade from version 9. We are using .Net Framework 4.8. What version can I upgrade to? I see ThinkGeo UI 12 is out but it says it is for .Net Core 3.0 and it isn’t clear to me that it works with .Net Framework.

What version should I be targeting? Thanks.

Hi Jay,

MapSuite 10 can work for .net framework 4.8, but we don’t suggest you upgrade to version 10 now.

  1. Our ThinkGeo UI 12 will support .net framework also in the next minor release 12.2, our plan was release it in first quarter of this year. After version 12.2 is released, we will stop to update version 10. So it’s not a good time to upgrade to version 10 exception you have to upgrade this month.

  2. In structure our version 10 is totally different with version 9. In V9 you only need to reference core and product dlls from local, but V10 split mainly features into separate packages and put them in NuGet, you need to choose which packages you want in project. In ThinkGeo UI 12, we still put packages in Nuget, but reduce the number again, I think that’s easier for upgrade.

I hope it’s helpful, any question please let us know.

Ethan

Thanks, Ethan. I think we’ll be able to wait for 12.2. How will licensing work for the new version? With 9.0, we had the Map Suite Production License Tool that we ran on the production server. Is there something similar for the new version?

Hi Jay,

Here is the license deployment guide after version 9: https://wiki.thinkgeo.com/wiki/thinkgeo_deployment_license_guide_for_webapi

Is the Map Suite Production License Tool a customized utility or included in your version 9 installer? Could you please let me know the scenario to use it so I can see whether we have similar one in new version.

Regards,

Ethan

Hi Ethan. That looks like what I was looking for. Here is the link to the version 9 production license tool:

Hi Jay,

Thanks for your update.

This utility had been integrated into our product center now.

Just like my link shows, you just need to run product center in server and setup it.

If you met any problem when deployment please feel free to let us know.

Ethan
