Hi ,
I see that there is a restriction with the Routing module that it supports LineShape data only.
How then would I use the routing module on a World Map and routing across oceans?
I would like to create routes between waypoints and ports.
Is there a world Map layer in the required format? as the sample data will not load into the Routing Explorer.
Any advice would be appreciated.
MapSuite Routing is for routing purposes using line based date, typically streets. It was designed for terrestrial road networks. For ocean navigation, it is different because boats are not limited by following a line network (that I am aware of). So, I think that for ocean naviagtion, the Routing product would not be a good fit. Nonetheless, we have tools available to track vehicles (boats or anything else), find the closest distance between objects, draw the Great Circles (smallest curvature on the earth). I think that Map Suite also could find Rhumb Lines (line crossing all meridians at the same angle) which is used for navigation. If you could tell in little more details what features you are expecting, we could give you a clearer direction on how to use the products of ThinkGeo for your purposes. Thank you.
