Utilize More Data Formats with the Free FDO Extension

We've just released the new Map Suite FDO extension, which lets you work with a wide variety of new vector and raster data formats in your Map Suite project by leveraging the open source FDO, OGR and GDAL libraries.  This extension comes free with the latest refresh of Map Suite Web Edition, which we just made available on July 23rd.  We're really excited about this and we think you'll be impressed by how easy it is to take advantage of these native C++ libraries.



To start working with the FDO extension:




  1. Download a fresh evaluation copy of Map Suite, or upgrade your licensed version at the Customer Portal.

  2. Check out our free overview video and sample applications to see how to start using the FDO, OGR and GDAL libraries.

Disclaimer: Because the FDO extension is based on a third-party open-source code library, you may experience unexpected issues beyond ThinkGeo's control when using an FDO-supported data format.

I have just managed to get Map Suite Web Edition up and running with FDO on a 64 bit Windows 2003 Server. 
  
 The trick was to have IIS run Asp.Net applications (exclusively in v6) in 32 bit mode, and copy the “MapSuiteFdoExtensionx86” folder from SysWOW64 to System32. There might be some additional smaller tweaks, but if so, I can’t remember them right now. 
  
 But a native x64 version of FDO (core and wrapper) would of course be much better :-)
