My understanding is that the Desktop Edition targets the 3.51 Framework. From my testing it seems it does not support the .NET 3.51 Client Profile. Is there any reason why it can't support the Client Profile or was this an oversight? It would be nice for this support since MapSuite is the only reason my app won't be able to target the Client Profile and take advantage of the smaller distribution footprint.
WPF Desktop Edition Client Profile Support
Dan,
This was not an oversight but a necessity at the time. The Client Profile does not include access to Oracle and Microsoft released this about three weeks before our major six month May release. At the time we were not prepared to do that but with the November release we will move Oracle to an extension and be able to support the 3.5 Client Profile. Of course you can get the changes earlier through our daily build process. Let me see if I can get a time frame on when we would break out Oracle into an extension. Sound good?
David
A timeframe would be much appreciated. Thanks for the background on the issue. I'm happy that its in the works.
Thanks,
Dan
Dan,
After doing some review we will not be able to directly target the Client Profile 3.5 but we will be able to remove the Oracle dependency which should remove the roadblock from you targeting the profile. If we don’t use anything restricted in the Client Profile 3.5 then if you reference us you should be ok. The issue is that we are not ready to upgrade all of our solutions across all of our products to VS2010 which is what would be required to target the profile. In any event the result should be the same for you. As fas as time frames we are looking to have the changes finished in about 2 weeks.
